Global Tender issued for 45 Metro Coaches and Advanced Signalling for Lucknow Metro Expansion
New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids for Civil Contract EC-03 under Delhi Metro Phase 5A, marking a significant step forward in the expansion of the Magenta Line between R.K. Ashram and Indraprastha. The tender covers a technically challenging underground stretch passing through the Central Vista corridor, one of the most sensitive and strategically important zones in the national capital.
The contract includes the design and construction of twin tunnels for the up and down lines using Shield Tunnel Boring Machines from Shivaji Stadium station up to Central Secretariat station, excluding both stations. It also involves tunnel construction through the cut-and-cover method from Central Secretariat to Kartavya Bhawan. In addition, the scope covers the construction of two underground stations at Central Secretariat and Kartavya Bhawan, along with associated entry and exit structures and connecting subways. The work spans chainage 31380.200 metres to 34221.069 metres.
The tender notice was issued on 9 February 2026 and will close on 11 March 2026. The earnest money deposit for the contract has been set at ₹12.81 crore. The package forms a crucial part of the R.K. Ashram–Indraprastha corridor, which is an extension of the Magenta Line under Phase 5A.
In December 2025, the Union Cabinet approved Delhi Metro Phase 5A at an estimated cost of ₹12,014.91 crore. The phase includes three corridor extensions covering approximately 16 kilometres. The largest component is the 9.913 km extension of the Magenta Line from R.K. Ashram to Indraprastha. The phase also includes the Golden Line extension from Aerocity to IGI Terminal 1 and another stretch from Sarita Vihar Depot to Kalindi Kunj.
The Central Vista underground section is expected to demand high-precision engineering, advanced tunnelling techniques, and careful coordination with multiple government authorities. Given the dense urban fabric and proximity to key administrative buildings, the project represents one of the most complex metro construction packages in Delhi’s recent expansion phases.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “The launch of Phase 5A civil packages reflects Delhi Metro’s continued commitment to expanding capacity in high-demand corridors. Underground infrastructure through sensitive urban zones such as Central Vista requires advanced tunnelling expertise, meticulous planning, and strong project governance. Such projects not only enhance mobility but also demonstrate India’s growing competence in executing complex metro engineering works.”
With the issuance of this major civil package, Phase 5A has moved firmly into active implementation, reinforcing Delhi Metro’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity across central Delhi while supporting sustainable and integrated urban mobility development.
