Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) on 13 January 2026 issued its first tender notice inviting bids for civil construction works under Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro project, marking the formal start of on-ground contracting activity for the next major expansion of Namma Metro.
The tender covers three civil packages on the Orange Line and comes nearly nine months after SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) and Assystem India were appointed as Detailed Design Consultants for Phase 3. Together, the three packages account for about 18.58 km of viaduct and stations, with a combined estimated value of ₹4,187.41 crore.
Phase 3 of the Bangalore Metro envisages a 44.65 km network in western Bengaluru, comprising a 32.15 km Orange Line (Corridor-1) from Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase along the Outer Ring Road, and a 12.5 km Corridor-2 connecting Kadabagare and Hosahalli. A notable feature of the project is the extensive use of double-decker viaducts, with road traffic on the lower deck and metro tracks on the upper deck, aimed at optimising limited urban space.
According to the tender notice, bids have been invited for three packages between JP Nagar 4th Phase and BDA Complex Nagarbhavi. The current deadline for bid submission is February 25, 2026, with technical bids scheduled to be opened on February 27, although officials indicated that timelines could be revised following pre-bid consultations.
The first package covers a 6.52 km stretch from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kamakya, with an estimated cost of ₹1,375.66 crore. This section includes four double-decker stations at JP Nagar 5th Phase, JP Nagar, Kadirenahalli and Kamakya Junction, along with the demolition of the existing Dollars Colony flyover.
The second package spans 5.41 km between Hosakerehalli and Nagarbhavi Circle at an estimated cost of ₹1,396.10 crore. It includes four double-decker stations at Hosakerehalli, Dwarkanagara, Mysore Road and Nagarbhavi.
The third package, valued at ₹1,415.65 crore, covers a 6.65 km stretch from Vinayaka Layout to BDA Complex Nagarbhavi. It includes three double-decker stations at Vinayaka Layout, Papireddypalya and BDA Complex Nagarbhavi, along with one conventional station at Sundakatte on Corridor-2 and the associated depot entry and exit lines.
BMRCL has not yet uploaded the detailed tender documents, which are expected to provide clarity on chainages, precise station locations and construction milestones. Officials indicated that the remaining 26 km of Phase 3 — covering the rest of Corridor-1 from BDA Complex Nagarbhavi to Kempapura and the entire Corridor-2 — will be tendered in subsequent packages, likely split into four additional contracts.
While the issuance of the first civil tenders is a significant step forward, the overall execution timeline remains long. Industry sources estimate that contractors are unlikely to be finalised before the third quarter of 2026, with large-scale construction activity expected to begin toward the end of that year.
