Navi Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant stride towards enhancing Delhi's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded Hill International the prestigious project management contract for Phase IV. This transformative phase encompasses extensive extensions to three metro lines, totaling a remarkable 65 kilometers.
The awarded contract involves overseeing the extension of metro Line 7 from Mukundpur to Maujpur, Line 8 from Janakpuri to RK Ashram, and Line 10 from Aerocity to Tughlakabad. These extensions, designed to cover new housing districts in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), represent a holistic approach to urban connectivity and development.
Out of the total 65 kilometers, 27 kilometers will run underground, featuring 18 new stations, while the remaining 38 kilometers will be elevated, comprising 27 stations. This dynamic blend of underground and elevated sections aims to efficiently serve the diverse needs of commuters across Delhi.
An essential focus of Phase IV is passenger safety. All stations within this phase will be equipped with platform screen doors, a pivotal measure to enhance safety standards and ensure a secure travel experience for the metro users. This strategic decision aligns with Delhi's commitment to providing state-of-the-art infrastructure to its residents.
The financing for the MRTS Phase IV project involves collaboration between the governments of India and Delhi, further bolstered by support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica). This collaborative effort underscores the global recognition of the project's significance and its potential to revolutionize metro services in major metropolises.
Hill International, entrusted with the project management responsibilities, will play a crucial role in overseeing diverse activities for DMRC throughout the construction phase. This includes managing civil engineering tasks for both elevated and underground sections. Additionally, Hill International will provide expertise in project management for the installation of signaling, telecommunications, the traction power supply system, and the construction of rolling stock depots and an operations control center.
Waleed Abdel Fattah, Regional President for Middle East and North Africa at Hill International, expressed the significance of the project, stating, "The project will serve a critical element of moving people in Delhi, and overall it will serve India’s rapidly-growing demand for metro services in its major metropolis."
As Delhi gears up for the ambitious Phase IV of the MRTS project, the collaboration between DMRC and Hill International sets the stage for a transformative leap in metro connectivity. The intricate balance of underground and elevated sections, coupled with a steadfast commitment to passenger safety, positions Phase IV as a milestone in Delhi's urban development. With Hill International at the helm, overseeing the meticulous execution, the future of Delhi's metro system looks poised for unparalleled growth.
