Hyderabad, India (Metro Rail Today): Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of IAS officer Shri Shivendra Pratap as the new Joint Managing Director. He officially assumed charge at Metro Rail Bhavan in Begumpet on 26 February 2026, marking an important administrative addition to one of India’s fastest-growing metro systems.
His appointment comes at a time when Hyderabad Metro continues to expand its operations and enhance commuter services, playing an increasingly important role in the city’s urban mobility landscape.
Following the assumption of charge, Shri Shivendra Pratap met HMRL Managing Director Shri Sarfaraz Ahmad, who welcomed him to the organisation and extended his best wishes for his new role.
The leadership expressed confidence that Pratap’s administrative experience and governance expertise will support the organisation in achieving its strategic goals, particularly as Hyderabad Metro focuses on operational improvements, service quality enhancement, and long-term network development.
As Joint Managing Director, he will work closely with the senior management team to oversee operational coordination, policy implementation, and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening metro services in the city.
Prior to joining HMRL, Shivendra Pratap served as the Additional Collector of Mahabubnagar district, where he gained recognition for his administrative leadership and effective governance.
During his tenure, he was involved in coordinating development projects, implementing public welfare initiatives, and managing key administrative functions, gaining valuable experience in infrastructure management, stakeholder coordination, and public service delivery.
These experiences are expected to help him contribute to the efficient administration and strategic growth of the Hyderabad Metro system.
Commenting on the leadership appointment, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said that strong administrative leadership is essential for the continued success of urban transit systems.
“Metro systems are complex infrastructure networks that require strong governance, operational coordination, and strategic planning. The appointment of experienced administrative leaders can play a crucial role in ensuring efficient operations and supporting the long-term growth of urban transit systems such as the Hyderabad Metro,” she said.
She added that leadership strengthening at metro organisations becomes particularly important as cities continue to expand transit networks and introduce advanced technologies to improve passenger services.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited plays a vital role in improving urban mobility and public transportation in Telangana’s capital city. The metro network has become a key component of Hyderabad’s transport ecosystem, offering safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable mobility solutions.
The system is designed to reduce road congestion, improve connectivity across major urban corridors, and provide a comfortable commuting option for thousands of daily passengers.
With Hyderabad witnessing rapid urbanisation and population growth, the metro network continues to evolve to meet increasing mobility demands while supporting sustainable city development.
