Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): Shri Prabhas Dansana has taken charge as Director General of the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) on 17 February 2026. A 1989 batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), he succeeds to the top post at Indian Railways’ premier research and standards body.
Prior to this appointment, Shri Dansana was serving as Principal Executive Director, Traffic Transportation (M), at the Railway Board, where he oversaw freight operations and policy matters at the national level. His extensive experience in traffic operations and commercial management is expected to bring strong operational insight to RDSO’s research and standardisation functions.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Shri Dansana has held several key leadership roles across Indian Railways. He has served as Principal Chief Operating Manager in South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway, and as Principal Chief Commercial Manager in North Eastern Frontier Railway. He also holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and has been serving as a part-time Government Director on the Board of Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) since June 2024.
As Director General of RDSO, Shri Dansana will be responsible for steering research, design validation, testing, and standardisation activities across Indian Railways. His leadership is expected to further strengthen innovation, safety enhancement, technology adoption, and capacity augmentation initiatives aligned with the Railways’ modernisation roadmap.
