Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): In a monumental stride towards urban infrastructure development, Jindal Stainless, India's premier stainless steel manufacturer, has contributed its premium stainless steel to India's pioneering underwater metro line in Kolkata. The recently inaugurated project, valued at INR ₹4,965 crore and unveiled by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, marks a significant milestone in India's infrastructural prowess.
Spanning a distance of 4.8 kilometers beneath the Hooghly River, the underwater segment of the metro line, part of the Green Line connecting Esplanade to Howrah Maidan, promises swift connectivity, covering the expanse in a mere 45 seconds. This underwater marvel forms a crucial section of the broader East-West Metro corridor, linking Howrah Maiden to Salt Lake Sector V, a pivotal IT hub in West Bengal.
Jindal Stainless has furnished SS 301LN, a superior austenitic stainless steel grade, in various tempers for fabricating essential components of the Kolkata Metro. Renowned for its corrosion resistance and durability, SS 301LN ensures minimal upkeep, rendering it a cost-effective solution over its lifecycle.
Commenting on this landmark collaboration, Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, lauded the Government of India for its infrastructural vision. He emphasized the transformative potential of stainless steel in revolutionizing urban infrastructure, epitomized by the Kolkata metro project. Beyond enhancing connectivity, this initiative exemplifies stainless steel's versatility and sustainability in shaping future urban landscapes.
Notably, the Howrah Maidan Metro station, slated to be the country's deepest at 33 meters underground, underscores India's engineering prowess. The tunnel beneath the river, constructed at a depth of 32 meters below the water level, stands as a testament to technological ingenuity.
Jindal Stainless's commitment to sustainable growth extends beyond Kolkata's metro project. The company has supplied stainless steel for India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in Meerut, facilitating the development of cutting-edge trainsets. These initiatives align with the company's ambitious goals of reducing carbon emissions and achieving a greener, more sustainable future.
As India's leading stainless steel manufacturer, Jindal Stainless remains steadfast in its pursuit of innovation and social responsibility. With a global presence spanning 15 countries and a robust domestic network, the company continues to spearhead advancements in stainless steel manufacturing, contributing to India's infrastructural renaissance and environmental stewardship.
