Jindal Stainless & GSV sign MoU to strengthen Industry-Academia Collaboration in Stainless Steel

Vadodara, India (Metro Rail Today): In a strategic move to advance innovation, research, and skill development in the stainless steel sector, Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL), India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), Vadodara. GSV, a Central University under the Ministry of Railways, focuses on developing talent for India’s transportation and logistics ecosystem.

The MoU was formalized on the sidelines of GSV’s 3rd Convocation Ceremony, at the university’s campus. The agreement was signed by Mr. Vijay Sharma, Director, Jindal Stainless, and Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor, GSV, in the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, who holds charge of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology.

“At Jindal Stainless, we believe that education and industry must go hand in hand to shape the India of tomorrow,” said Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless.
“This collaboration marks a new milestone in our vision to mainstream stainless steel as the most sustainable solution for nation building. Our partnership with GSV reinforces our shared mission to build a skilled and future-ready talent pool, aligned with the country’s industrial ambitions.”

Driving a Future-Ready Stainless Steel Ecosystem

This collaboration is part of Jindal Stainless’ broader commitment to creating a self-sustaining ecosystem for stainless steel applications in India. Through the partnership, JSL and GSV will jointly undertake research, training, curriculum development, and capacity building related to the use of stainless steel in transportation, infrastructure, and logistics.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Joint development of academic and executive programs.

  • Research collaboration, including partnerships with international institutions.

  • Internship and placement opportunities for GSV students.

  • Faculty development and industry exposure programs.

“This initiative marks a key milestone in our ‘Stainless Academy’ journey,” said Mr. Vijay Sharma, Director, Jindal Stainless, “By leveraging GSV’s academic excellence and our on-ground industry expertise, we aim to empower future professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to lead sustainable growth across sectors.”

Echoing the significance of the partnership, Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor, GSV, added:
“This MoU with Jindal Stainless is a meaningful step in integrating real-world industrial practices into academic learning. It will equip our students with hands-on exposure and align their skills with the evolving needs of India’s mobility and infrastructure sectors.”

“This is a timely and progressive partnership that aligns with India’s infrastructure vision and green mobility roadmap. With stainless steel playing a transformative role across rail, road, and logistics, such collaborations are crucial for skilling talent and accelerating technology adoption. It also reinforces the long-term relevance of sustainable materials in nation-building,” commented Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group adding an industry-wide perspective.

This MoU falls under the umbrella of Jindal Stainless’ “Stainless Academy”, an initiative aimed at sectoral development through fabricator training, qualification pack-based skilling, and academia-industry linkages. What began as a small effort to train fabricators has evolved into a nationwide platform that fosters innovation, employment, and entrepreneurship in the stainless steel ecosystem.

The academy also plays a vital role in promoting stainless steel awareness, especially as its corrosion resistance, durability, recyclability, and low life-cycle costs make it increasingly relevant to India’s infrastructure and mobility ambitions.

Gati Skahti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) is a central university under the Ministry of Railways, GSV focuses on multidisciplinary education and research in the fields of transportation, logistics, and infrastructure. Its programs are designed to meet the evolving needs of India’s rapidly growing mobility ecosystem.

With a turnover of ₹40,182 crore (USD 4.75 billion) in FY25, Jindal Stainless is India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer. By FY27, it aims to scale up to 4.2 million tonnes of annual melt capacity. The company operates 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities worldwide—including in India, Spain, and Indonesia—and serves customers across 12 countries. It produces a wide portfolio of products including coils, plates, precision strips, wire rods, rebars, blade steel, and coin blanks.
