Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Pune metro project, the Maharashtra state government has greenlit an additional allocation of Rs 2,000 crore. This decision comes in response to various factors affecting the project, including alterations in station locations, pandemic-induced delays, and escalated land acquisition costs. The approval not only addresses the rising expenses but also facilitates the submission of proposals to the central government. 'Mahametro' holds the responsibility for executing the metro project, spanning from Vanaj to Ramwadi and Pimpri to Shivajinagar in Pune city.
Initially estimated at Rs 11,420 crore, the project's cost has witnessed an increase of approximately Rs 2,000 crore due to unforeseen circumstances like the pandemic and heightened land acquisition expenses.
Following the proposal for increased funding by 'Mahametro,' the state government swiftly granted approval, setting the stage for securing its share of the additional expenditure. The next crucial step involves submitting the proposal to the central government through the state, with the exact amount of the Centre's contribution awaiting endorsement.
In a recent meeting led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the 'Deputy Chief Minister's Project Monitoring Unit' in Mumbai evaluated the progress of Metro Lines 1, 2, and 3. The discussion also shed light on plans for a pedestrian flyover at Raj Bhavan on the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi metro line, aimed at enhancing safety. The decision was made to construct the flyover using durable materials such as steel and cement.
Additionally, both the State Government and Central Government have granted approval for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Station to Nigdi route. The meeting underscored the anticipated approval of the draft tripartite agreement involving Mahametro, the State Government, and the Central Government. This draft has been forwarded from the Central Government to the State Government for further consideration.
Furthermore, a comprehensive assessment of progress on various projects, including the construction of Pune Bypass Road, Pune Nashik High-Speed Railway, and various organizational centers and buildings, was conducted during the meeting.
The approval of an additional Rs 2,000 crore by the Maharashtra state government marks a significant milestone for the Pune metro project, addressing challenges posed by unforeseen circumstances. This financial boost not only ensures the project's continuity but also streamlines the process of securing central government support. As Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar oversees the project's progress, the commitment to enhancing metro infrastructure and safety measures remains a top priority for the state. With both State and Central Government approvals, the project is poised for significant advancements, reinforcing Pune's position as a growing metropolitan hub.
