Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Maharashtra Government has given additional responsibility to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) to implement Wadala-CSMT Metro Corridor (Line 11) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project. The dicision was taken on 25th January 2023 in a meeting held in Mumbai by Urban Development Department.
Keeping in view of MMRC's experience in executing Underground metro corridor, the decision was made as the 70% section of Line 11 will be underground. Earlier, this Line was assigned to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
"Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation will now execute Metro 11 Line (Wadala-CSTM) instead of MMRDA due to similar nature of work executed by Mumbai Metro for Aqua line & their expertise in tunnelling & U/G Section will help in similar project of Metro 11 (70% U/G)," said sources.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) is currently executing 33.5 km long fully underground Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ metro corridor (Aqua Line) connecting Colaba in south of Mumbai to Aarey Depot in the north-centre with 27 stations.
The proposed Mumbai Metro Line 11 is an 12.774 kilometre extension of Green Line which will connect Wadala (Bhakti Park) to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with 10 metro stations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Carnac Bunder, Clock Tower, Wadi Bundar, Darukhana, Coal Bunder, Hay Bunder, Sewri Metro, BPT Hospital and Ganesh Nagar.
