MMRC to appoint consultants for Mumbai Metro Line 3 Extension

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In March 2022, the Government of Maharashtra announced plans to extend Line 3 southbound from Cuffe Parade, adding a 2.5 km stretch with one new station at Navy Nagar. The extension would cost an additional Rs 2,301 crore. The extended part comprises 2.5 km of which nearly 1.5 km will be the actual metro line length and the remaining stretch will be useful for turning metro rakes, etc.

In this regard, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) is seeking expression of interest/bids from reputed consultants for providing consultancy services for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) & Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Report for Southern Extension of Mumbai Metro Line-3 from Cuffe Parade to Navy Nagar. The last date to submit bids is 1st September 2022.

Apart from this, MMRC is also inviting bids for providing consultancy for Project Management, Architectural and Structural Design Services for the redevelopment of buildings for project-affected persons (K3, G3 & K2 Buildings balance work) at Kalbadevi & Girgaon Stations of Mumbai Metro Line – 3.

Earlier, the Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command (WNC) had requested Maharashtra Government to extend the metro services from Cuffe Parade to Navy Nagar. This will help Naval Officers and their families to connect with other parts of Mumbai with the metro rail facility.

According to the plan, a 250 metres long station is proposed in front of TIFR on Dr. Homi Bhabha Road with approx. 2.5 km extension of the tunnel from a current terminal point near Ambedkar Nagar. Double side platform station including cross-over before & after metro station (25 other stations have island platform).

With the extension, the stabling facilities created south of Cuffe Parade will no more be available. Therefore, an underground stabling facility is proposed below BEST’s Backbay Bus Depot, and adjoining heliport land and slums. A turnout was provided after Cuffe Parade station to enter into U/G stabling below Backbay Bus Depot.
