Route survey commences for ₹6,225 crore Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project

Bhubaneswar, India (Metro Rail Today): The wheels are in motion for the ambitious Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project as the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation initiated survey work on Friday, signaling the first steps towards transforming the city's transportation landscape. The survey kickstarted from Vani Vihar and extended to Sishu Bhawan Square, laying the groundwork for the proposed Metro Railway network.

A dedicated team comprising members from various organizations including the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, TPCODL, GAIL, BSNL, WATCO, and Commissionerate Traffic Police collaborated with the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation to conduct the comprehensive survey. Given the sweltering heatwave conditions prevailing in the region, the survey was strategically conducted during the morning hours to ensure optimal working conditions for the team.

During the survey, meticulous attention was paid to various infrastructural elements within the designated metro station areas, including electricity poles, water pipes, telephone lines, gas pipelines, and other essential utilities. This detailed assessment is crucial for planning and executing the metro railway project seamlessly while minimizing disruptions to existing infrastructure and services.

The proposed Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project envisions a 26-kilometer metro railway line connecting Bhubaneswar Airport to Trishulia in Cuttack, with an estimated investment of Rs 6,225 crore. The elevated tracks, supported by 450 pillars, will traverse key areas of the city, providing efficient connectivity and easing the burden of commuting for residents.

In its initial phase, the project will feature five strategically located stations, namely Master Canteen, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Patia, and Nandankanan, catering to the diverse travel needs of commuters. The introduction of the metro railway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, offering a swift commute that takes only 15 minutes in either direction.

The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project represents a significant milestone in the city's journey towards modernizing its public transportation infrastructure and enhancing mobility for its residents. By providing a reliable and efficient mode of transportation, the project aims to alleviate congestion on roads, promote sustainable urban development, and improve the overall quality of life for the populace.

As survey operations continue and plans progress, stakeholders remain optimistic about the transformative impact of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project, poised to revolutionize the way residents travel within the city and beyond.
