Two firms bid for Track Work Contract of Nagpur Metro Phase 2

Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Nagpur's transportation infrastructure, Rahee Infratech Ltd. and NMC Industries Pvt. Ltd. have entered the fray to secure the contract for supplying and installing ballasted tracks for the Phase 2 expansion of Nagpur Metro. The move comes after Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) unveiled the technical bids for the project last week.

The scope of Package T-01 primarily encompasses the installation of track work along a 1.746 km at-grade section of Nagpur Metro's Orange Line, which constitutes part of the extensive 43.8 km Phase 2 project. This particular section, spanning from chainage 19550 to 21296.917, serves as a crucial link connecting Khapri to Butibori MIDC ESR. Notably, it features two key metro stations, namely Eco Park Station and Metro City Station.

Apart from conventional rails, the selected contractor will be tasked with providing special head-hardened rails of 60E1 – 1080 grade, along with necessary track fastenings and 1 in 9 turnouts. These turnouts are essential for facilitating crossovers, enabling CRRC trains to seamlessly switch tracks between the up and down lines.

Maha-Metro had initially invited bids for this contract in March 2024, with an estimated project cost of Rs. 7.96 crore and a tight deadline of 150 days. The scope of the contract, as outlined by Maha-Metro, encompasses the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of ballasted tracks within the at-grade section of Reach 1A of Nagpur Metro Phase-2. This also includes the provision of 1080 Grade HH Rails, track fastenings, 1 in 9 R300 ballasted turnout, and other miscellaneous works.

Following the submission of bids, the process has now entered the technical evaluation phase, which is expected to span over the coming months. During this period, thorough assessments will be conducted to determine the technical viability and compliance of the submitted proposals. Once this phase concludes, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be unveiled, shedding light on the lowest bidder and the likely contractor for the project.

This marks the second significant systems-related contract awarded in Phase 2, following the opening of technical bids for the electrical and mechanical contract E&M-02. The progression of these contracts underscores the steady momentum of Nagpur Metro Phase 2 and reaffirms its commitment to enhancing urban mobility and connectivity in the region.

The competitive bidding process for the track work contract T-01 reflects the concerted efforts to advance the Phase 2 expansion of Nagpur Metro. As stakeholders await the outcome of the technical evaluation and subsequent financial bids, anticipation mounts regarding the selection of the contractor who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Nagpur's metro infrastructure.
