Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a bold move aimed at accelerating the construction of Metro corridors and preempting potential delays, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), has introduced a groundbreaking strategy by establishing dedicated expert teams for each Metro line. This innovative approach is expected to redefine the construction process, ensuring impeccable coordination and on-time completion.
With the ongoing construction of Metro corridors within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessing rapid progress, this new strategy emerges as a pivotal step toward achieving punctuality and precision. Dr. Mukherjee shed light on this transformative initiative, stating, "Previously, various aspects such as electrical and civil work lacked clear ownership, leading to potential bottlenecks. With this new approach, we've designated a team leader for each Metro line, along with directors overseeing comprehensive progress. This shift promises a substantial change."
The reimagined approach involves the appointment of three directors, each meticulously overseeing a specific Metro line. This strategic division of responsibilities aims to infuse unmatched focus and accountability into the construction process. Carefully outlined administrative guidelines define the roles of directors, chief engineers, and team leaders. This framework is projected to foster enhanced synchronization among departments, bolstering coordination between systems and civil engineering.
Beyond team restructuring, the MMRDA is embarking on a revolution in the procurement process by implementing bulk rates for items and components. This streamlined procurement approach is set to eliminate disputes and finger-pointing among contractors, ensuring a smoother workflow. Each construction stage will feature interfaces designed to further expedite progress.
Prominent Metro corridors currently under construction within MMR include the DN Nagar to Madale Metro Line 2B, Wadala-Kasarvadavli (Thane) Metro Line 4, Metro Line 5 connecting Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan, Metro Line 6 spanning from Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli (EEH), and the extension of Line 7, known as Metro Line 9, linking Andheri to CSIA and Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander. MMRDA officials affirmed that construction work is advancing at an accelerated pace, with Dr. Mukherjee leading regular reviews.
The introduction of dedicated expert teams for each Metro corridor heralds a new era in Mumbai's construction landscape, where precision, efficiency, and timely execution stand at the forefront of the ambitious vision to redefine urban connectivity.
