Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): Mumbai Metro crossed an important milestone of 20 Million commuters this week. The network achieved this feat for metro lines 2A & 7.
Phase 1 of Mumbai metro lines 2A & 7 were launched on 2nd April 2022 and Phase 2 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19th January, 2023, giving Mumbai its first integrated metro network.
Mumbai Metro began its Phase-I with an average ridership of 30,500 commuters per day running 172 trips. However, Mumbai Metro’s Phase-II was a game changer as post-commissioning the ridership increased to more than 1.6 Lakhs commuters per day signifying Mumbaikar’s wholehearted support.
Speaking on this occasion SVR Srinivas, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA & CMD, MMMOCL said, “It’s indeed a significant milestone for Mumbai Metro of achieving 2 crore ridership within a year. We have been constantly working towards providing commuters with state-of-the-art travel facilities, and services and focusing also upon last mile connectivity. We have also integrated cutting edge technology to ensure commute becomes quicker & hassle-free, like the Mumbai-1 National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) which around 81,000 Mumbaikars have already availed.”
The 18.5 km Metro 2A (Yellow Line) connects Dahisar East to DN Nagar with 16 elevated stations at Dahisar East, Upper Dahisar, Kandarpada, Mandapeshwar, Eksar, Borivali (West), Pahadi Eksar, Kandivali (West), Dahanukarwadi, Valnai, Malad (West), Lower Malad, Pahadi Goregaon, Goregaon (West), Oshiwara, Lower Oshiwara and Andheri (West).
The 16.47 km Metro 7 (Red Line) connects Dahisar East to Andheri (East) with 13 elevated stations at Dahisar (East), Ovaripada, National Park, Devipada, Magathane, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bandongri, Pushpa Park, Pathan Wadi, Aarey, Mahanand, JVLR Junction, Shankarwadi, and Andheri (East).
