Mumbai Metro Line 7A is expected to be commissioned by December 2024

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In an exciting development for Mumbai Metro commuters, upcoming Metro projects are set to transform the way travelers reach the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Two key Metro lines, Line 7A (Dahisar East to Gundavali) and underground Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ), promise to revolutionize airport connectivity.

Line 7A - A Game-Changer for Andheri East and Beyond

This month, tunneling work commenced on the 3.4-kilometer Mumbai Metro Line 7A. An extension of the operational Metro Line 7, this project will connect Dahisar East to Gundavali, offering a direct link from Andheri East to the airport. This development significantly reduces the travel time to CSMIA, cutting it from over two hours by road to just one hour by Metro.

Underground Line 3 - Effortless Airport Access from Colaba

The underground Metro Line 3, running from Colaba to Bandra-SEEPZ, will provide convenient access for Colaba residents to reach the CSMIA T2 station directly. This eliminates the need for autos or cabs, offering a more streamlined commute compared to the existing airport station on Metro Line One.

Interchange Stations for Enhanced Connectivity

Notably, upcoming Metro lines 1, 6, 2A, and 2B will feature interchange stations, further enhancing travel options within the city and suburbs.

Projected Timelines

According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Metro Line 7A is expected to be operational by December 2025. Tunneling work has already commenced, with a partial elevated alignment running alongside the Western Express Highway and Sahar elevated road.

The CSMIA T2 station on Metro Line 3 is currently 91% complete and is part of Phase 1 (Aarey to BKC) alignment. Phase 1 of Metro Line 3 is anticipated to be ready by December this year or early next year, according to MMRC, the project implementing authority.

A Convenient Link for All of Mumbai

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, MMRDA Commissioner, highlights the significance of Metro Line 7A, emphasizing that it will serve as a crucial link, seamlessly connecting western and eastern suburbs, South Mumbai, Mira Bhayander, and Thane through a comprehensive network of Metro lines. This enhanced connectivity ensures hassle-free journeys for airport commuters, offering easy access to the T2 terminal.

A spokesperson from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC) underscores the importance of Metro Line 3, which is expected to become the busiest single line in Mumbai, connecting major hotspots from Colaba to SEEPZ and providing critical access to both T1 and T2 terminals.

As these Metro projects near completion, Mumbai's airport commute is on the verge of a remarkable transformation, promising a convenient and efficient travel experience for all passengers.
