NCRTC installs Solar Power Plants at Sahibabad and Duhai Depot RRTS Stations

Ghaziabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a remarkable stride towards sustainable practices, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) reached another milestone with the inauguration of cutting-edge Solar Power Plants at Sahibabad RRTS station and Duhai Depot RRTS station. The inauguration ceremony, led by Mr. Vinay Kumar Singh, the Managing Director of NCRTC, showcased the corporation's unwavering commitment to environmental consciousness.

Harnessing Solar Energy for a Green Future

With an emphasis on reducing its carbon footprint, NCRTC unveiled a state-of-the-art Solar Power Plant at Sahibabad station, boasting an impressive capacity of 729 kW and adorned with 1620 high-efficiency solar panels. This eco-friendly marvel is anticipated to generate a whopping 10 lakh units of electricity annually, surpassing the station's auxiliary load consumption of about 7.3 lakhs per annum. The Sahibabad Station is now proudly recognized as a 'Green Station with the distinction of being Carbon Negative.'

Meanwhile, the solar plant at the Duhai Depot Station, equipped with 320 solar panels and an installed capacity of 108 kW, adds another layer of sustainability to the NCRTC network. This initiative follows the establishment of a 585 kWp solar power plant at the RRTS Depot in Duhai earlier this year, earning the depot the coveted status of a Green Depot.

A Significant Environmental Impact

The combined efforts of these solar power plants are projected to slash approximately 1600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. By transitioning from conventional fossil fuel-based power sources to clean and green solar energy, NCRTC is not only championing sustainable practices but also optimizing operational costs.

This green initiative aligns seamlessly with NCRTC's Solar Policy, implemented in March 2021, aiming to elevate the share of renewable energy by generating around 11 MW peak of in-house solar power across its stations, depots, and facilities over the next five years.

Recognitions and Future Commitments

NCRTC's commitment to sustainability has been acknowledged with the highest rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The Ghaziabad Receiving Sub Station (RSS) and Sahibabad RRTS station have both received Platinum Ratings, a testament to their dedication to environmental responsibility. The incorporation of green energy and a minimal water consumption system in the RRTS further enhances the overall commuter experience, encouraging a higher uptake of public transport.

The installation of these Solar Power Plants underlines NCRTC's pledge to clean energy practices, aligning with the National Solar Mission's objectives. This initiative reinforces NCRTC's pivotal role in promoting clean, sustainable energy sources for the betterment of the region and the nation.

As NCRTC continues to lead the way in sustainable transport solutions, the inauguration of these Solar Power Plants represents a significant leap towards a greener future. The corporation's dedication to environmental responsibility, coupled with its strategic solar initiatives, underscores its commitment to clean energy and a sustainable tomorrow.
