Noida, India (Metro Rail Today): The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) achieved a significant milestone on Monday as the Board approved the detailed project report (DPR) for the extension of the metro network into Noida Extension, featuring an interchange station with the Delhi Metro's Blue Line.
Noida Extension, also known as Greater Noida West, is a densely populated area lacking government-aided public transport. The approval comes after years of local demonstrations, highlighting the community's demand for metro rail connectivity and improved transportation services.
The DPR outlines the expansion of the Aqua Line corridor from Noida Sector-51 station to Knowledge Park V (Greater Noida). The proposed 17.43-km route with 11 stations comes at an estimated cost of Rs 2991.60 crore, as shared by NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M.
The strategic significance of this expansion lies in the proposed inter-connectivity of the existing operational Aqua Line with the DMRC's Blue Line at Sector-61 station. This development is poised to benefit commuters in Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida, offering faster and direct connectivity to Noida and Delhi, and vice versa.
Lokesh M stated, "The DPR for this project was approved by the NMRC Board today. Now, the DPR will be processed for approval by the government of Uttar Pradesh and the government of India." The progression of the project signals a positive step towards enhancing metro connectivity in the region, addressing the longstanding transportation needs of the local population.
