Pini India appointed as DDC for Pune Metro's Swargate - Katraj Underground Section

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) has appointed M/s PINl India Pvt. Ltd. to provide Detail Design Consultancy (DDC) services for a vital segment of the Pune Metro Rail Project. This contract focuses on the Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) and associated works, marking a significant step forward in the project's advancement. The contract entails appointing a Detail Design Consultant for detailed design work, including the architectural and Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) aspects, along with SES simulation, CFD simulation of stations and tunnels, Environmental Control System (ECS), Building Management System (BMS), E&M services, and proof-checking of the Swargate to Katraj corridor (underground corridor) of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The tender has been awarded at a value of ₹6,84,70,000/-.

The Pune Metro Rail Project, sanctioned by both the Govt. of India and the Govt. of Maharashtra in December 2016, saw its foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24th December 2016, with project work commencing on 3rd May 2017. Comprising two corridors—the North South Corridor (Purple line) and the East West Corridor (Aqua line)—the project spans a total of 33.2 km with 30 stations. Of this, the elevated section covers 27.2 km, while the underground section spans 6 km. Maintenance depots are located at Range Hills and Vanaz, with services expected to operate using 34 metro trains in three-car configurations.

The North-South Corridor (Purple Line) extends over 17.5 km and includes 14 stations. A significant portion of this corridor, spanning 6 km from Range Hills to Swargate, is underground due to congestion in the Shivaji Nagar and Old Peth areas. The East-West Corridor (Aqua Line) is entirely elevated and spans 15.7 km, featuring 16 stations and passing through densely populated residential areas of Pune.

The partnership between Maha Metro and M/s PINl India for the Swargate to Katraj corridor signifies a crucial milestone in the Pune Metro Rail Project. It promises improved urban connectivity and a contemporary transit solution for Pune's growing population, highlighting the project's commitment to sustainable and efficient urban transportation.
