New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, a government-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has embarked on an ambitious endeavor to promote Indian technology, innovation, and products in South Africa and its neighboring regions. This strategic move comes in the form of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 24, marking a significant step towards fostering collaboration and exploring new avenues of growth.
To strengthen bilateral ties and tap into mutually beneficial opportunities, RailTel inked the MoU with InoviTel (PTY) LTD and Tsiko Africa Energy & Infrastructure for Tsiko Group. The agreement sets the stage for joint initiatives across various sectors including telecommunications, railways, and IT/ICT businesses in South Africa. According to a press statement from RailTel, the scope of the MoU encompasses the activation and commercialization of dark fiber along railway lines and high-voltage transmission lines in South Africa.
Furthermore, the agreement extends to the implementation of Railway Signal & Telecommunication solutions, Digital twin Modeling of Railway assets for predictive maintenance, and Traffic simulation, among other innovative solutions. RailTel, known for its extensive telecom infrastructure in India, boasts a pan-India optic fiber network spanning over 61,000 route kilometers, covering major metros, cities, and rural areas, serving 70 percent of India's population.
Tsiko Africa Energy and Infrastructure, along with InoviTel, both South Africa-based entities supported by the Tsiko Africa Group and affiliated with the South African Indo-Afro Business Association NPC, bring valuable local expertise and resources to the table, facilitating seamless collaboration and project implementation. The MoU signing ceremony occurred at Pretoria, South Africa, in the esteemed presence of Prabhat Kumar, High Commissioner of India to South Africa, and Mahesh Kumar, Consul General of India, Johannesburg.
The exchange of the MoU was facilitated by Parag Kumar Goyal, Principal Executive Director/Enterprise Business, RailTel, who engaged with Lavine Singh, Chief Executive Officer of InoviTel (PTY) LTD, and Pragasen Naidoo, Chief Executive Officer of Tsiko Africa Energy and Infrastructure (Pty) Ltd. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both nations to leverage technology and innovation for sustainable development and economic growth.
