Siemens Mobility Signs Maintenance Contract for Toronto's Metrolinx

Toronto, Canada (Metro Rail Today): Siemens Mobility has recently signed a new deal with Metrolinx, the public transport management body in Toronto, Canada. This contract entails providing maintenance services for the public transit network in Greater Toronto and Hamilton, thereby expanding Siemens' footprint in Canada.

The scope of the contract encompasses track, signal, and right-of-way maintenance for the Central Region in Toronto. It builds upon Siemens' existing contract, extending the same services to the operator's West Region network as well.

Johannes Emmelheinz, CEO of customer services for Siemens Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about deepening the partnership with Metrolinx. He emphasized the importance of ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of the transit system for passengers. Leveraging their expertise in rail infrastructure maintenance and digital services, Siemens aims to achieve up to 100% system availability.

In addition to the maintenance services in the West Region, Siemens already provides signal and communications services for Metrolinx's Network Operations Centre. As part of the new agreement, Siemens will also furnish Metrolinx with rail infrastructure performance data using digital tools and software developed over their 25 years of rail maintenance experience in North America.

The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area heavily relies on GO Transit, a rail operator owned by Metrolinx, for public transportation. Currently, Metrolinx is actively working on the GO Expansion project, which involves the development of new infrastructure to enhance transit services in the region.

Metrolinx is a crown agency under the administration control of Government of Ontario which was created to improve the coordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
