Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Bangalore's metro expansion, Siemens – Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (Siemens – RVNL JV) has emerged as the lowest bidder for the 750V DC third rail electrification contract, EPC5-CC, for Bangalore Metro's 57 km Blue Line. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) declared Siemens – RVNL JV as the successful bidder for this critical systems contract, connecting Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations on the Outer Ring Road and national highway NH-44.
The electrification contract encompasses third rail traction works that will supply power to the line's BEML trains from Package 5RS-DM. Additionally, Siemens – RVNL JV is entrusted with commissioning the 33 KV distribution system, several substations & auxiliary substations, and the SCADA system for the entire line.
Siemens – RVNL JV emerged as the lowest bidder with a bid of ₹769 Crores. Competing against Linxon (₹835 Crores) and Larsen & Toubro (₹860 Crores), Siemens – RVNL JV demonstrated competitiveness and efficiency in their bid.
The scope of work includes the engineering, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of various components essential for the electrification of the metro line. This includes 33 KV switchgear, MV Cable network, auxiliary substation equipment, traction substation equipment, inverter equipment, DC cables, third rail system, stinger system, control & monitoring equipment, stray current monitoring system, parallel return feeder, ETS system, and earthing systems bonding & stray current management.
With civil construction already underway across multiple packages, BMRCL is diligently progressing on all system contracts. The focus on finalizing these contracts is pivotal for the successful execution of Bangalore Metro's Phase 2A and 2B. Siemens – RVNL JV's efficient bid and subsequent contract award position them as a key contributor to the electrification and modernization of Bangalore's metro network.
As Bangalore looks forward to enhanced metro connectivity and efficiency, Siemens – RVNL JV's role in this critical infrastructure project is poised to play a significant part in shaping the city's future transportation landscape.
