Siemens secures signaling and telecom contract from RVNL for Kolkata Metro Line 3, 6

Kolkata, India (Metro Rail Today): The consortium of Siemens Limited India and Siemens Mobility GmbH has secured an order from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for signaling and telecommunication of the Kavi Subhash-Biman Bandar Corridor (32 km) and Joka-Esplanade Metro Corridor (16 km) of Kolkata Metro Line 3 & 6.

The scope of work includes Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of CBTC based Train Control and Signaling Systems and Telecommunication systems for 32-km Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar Corridor and 16-km Joka–Esplanade Metro Corridor of Kolkata Metro Railway.

The CBTC solution by Siemens Ltd will facilitate 100% punctuality, maximum network capacity, energy savings and decreased headways while ensuring highest possible safety.

Tender for the above work was invited by RVNL February 2021 with an estimatd cost of work of Rs 656 crore and 48 months completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in January 2022. Only two bidders  Alstom Transport India and Siemens Ltd were participated in the biddding process.
 
Siemens in joint venture with KEC International Ltd will also provide 33 KV power distribution and 750 V DC third rail traction systems for Kolkata Metro's Line 3 & 6. Siemens has equipped Kolkata Metro’s North-South corridor and East-West line with TPWS signaling and rail electrification systems, respectively.
