New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): Sudhanshu Mani, also known as the Innovator of Vande Bharat Express (Train 18), Former General Manager, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, Indian Railways, has been conferred as 'Most Innovative Rail Technology Leader'. The award is given to him for his efforts for conceptualization to launching India's first state of the art, semi-high speed engine-less train within 18 months of time frame.
The award was given at a grand ceremony - 2nd Urban Infra Business Summit & Awards 2022 hosted by Urban Infra Group on 7th November 2022 at India International Center, New Delhi, India. The award ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the nodal ministries, government departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and industry leaders from the leading multi-national companies (MNCs) engaged in developing major urban infrastructure in India.
The Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards are given to corporate and individual leaders in recognition and honor for their extraordinary contribution to developing major infrastructure projects in India through their innovative ideas, products, and services. A total of 41 (9 individuals and 32 corporate) were felicitated with the 2nd Urban Infra Business Leadership awards.
Sudhanshu Mani retired in the apex grade of Government of India from the Indian Railways (IR) Service of Mechanical Engineering as General Manager, Integral Coach Factory, Chennai after serving IR for 38 years. He also served as Railway Advisor in the Embassy of India, Berlin for 3 years, interacting with railway systems in Europe and other advanced countries on behalf of IR. He is a Fellow of Institute of Mechanical Engineers, London. He led the Train 18/Vande Bharat Express project, the first ever indigenous semi high-speed train of India, from concept to delivery.
After retirement, he is engaged in advisory role in the corporate world and technical, strategic and investment consulting and he has discovered that, as someone who accomplished tasks and projects meaningfully in a government system, it was easier for him to deliver in any field of his interest.
His journey in leading and completing the unique Train 18 project is recounted in his best-seller book, ‘My Train 18 Story’. He has authored six more books, including four on a subject of his special passion, art and railways, one each on environment and greenery and collation of the works of Ghālib and Shakespeare.
Apart from his intense work as a consultant, he is also engaged in multiple activities like serving on Advisory & Editorial Board of leading Railway & Metro journals, organization of Awadh Conclave (a festival of free thought), Keynote/stand-alone speaker and panellist on platforms such as IIMs, IITs, TEDx, PMI & CII conferences, anchor for news analysis, art and cultural on YouTube channel thepublic.india and promotion and curation of Visual Arts in association with a prominent art gallery of Lucknow. He runs a ‘not for profit’ art and culture centre, Manis’ and presides over Rolling Cars’ Society, which promotes technical awareness. He writes opinion pieces regularly on national issues of engineering and project management in leading newspapers, journals and portals, like, Hindu BusinessLine, Deccan herald, Moneycontrol, PSUWatch, FPJ, IRJ, and Pioneer and in addition, on these subjects and current affairs, art and literature etc.The 1st edition of Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards was held virtually in 2020 due to the countrywide pandemic.
