Paris, France (Metro Rail Today): In a landmark move that strengthens its global leadership in transport and infrastructure engineering, SYSTRA Group, the world-renowned consultancy for public transport and mobility solutions, has announced the acquisition of BG&E, a multidisciplinary Australian engineering firm celebrated for its expertise in transport infrastructure and complex building design.
This strategic acquisition not only expands SYSTRA’s presence in Australia and New Zealand, but also launches a new international business line dedicated to complex buildings, combining global best practices with local engineering excellence.
With this acquisition, SYSTRA and BG&E will now employ over 1,000 professionals across Australia and New Zealand, positioning the group as a major force in one of the world’s fastest-growing infrastructure markets. BG&E brings with it a team of more than 800 engineers and designers with offices across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, and the UK.
This partnership enables SYSTRA to deliver comprehensive, multi-disciplinary engineering solutions that span the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects—from design and feasibility studies to construction, operations, and maintenance.
Furthermore, BG&E’s established presence in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom will strengthen SYSTRA’s reach across these key international markets, opening doors for greater collaboration on mega infrastructure and sustainable transport projects.
While SYSTRA has long been recognized globally for its excellence in transport infrastructure—particularly in rail, metro, and urban mobility systems—the integration of BG&E’s capabilities marks a new era for the group in the field of complex buildings.
Together, the combined network of over 700 specialists will deliver innovative design and engineering solutions for transport-related structures such as stations, depots, and maintenance facilities, as well as commercial and public buildings worldwide.
Jean-Charles Vollery, CEO of SYSTRA, said:
“We are delighted to welcome the talented BG&E teams to SYSTRA. Together, we have a unique lever to support the transformation of infrastructure in Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. This partnership reflects our growth ambitions and our aim to be the signature team for engineering in the transport and complex buildings sectors worldwide.”
Frank Cerra, Managing Director of BG&E, added:
“Over the past 55 years, BG&E has contributed to some of the largest infrastructure and buildings projects in Australia and overseas. Joining SYSTRA is the right cultural and strategic fit for us, enabling our teams to leverage global expertise while continuing our mission of delivering practical, innovative, and sustainable engineering solutions.”
SYSTRA’s acquisition of BG&E comes at a time of rapid transformation across the infrastructure and transport sectors worldwide. With over 11,000 employees operating in more than 80 countries, SYSTRA has been a driving force behind major mobility projects such as Sydney Metro, the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program, and the Sydney–Newcastle High-Speed Rail business case.
The acquisition underscores SYSTRA’s long-term commitment to innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation in engineering, with a focus on delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of growing urban populations.
SYSTRA Group is one of the world’s leading engineering and consultancy firms specializing in public transport and mobility solutions.
