Systra likely to appointed as DDC for Gurugram Metro Extension Corridor

Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) has emerged as the sole bidder for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract of the upcoming 28.5 km Gurugram Metro line connecting HUDA Millennium City Centre and Cyber City. This elevated corridor project, managed by Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Ltd (HMRTC), aims to create a crucial ring line through Gurugram and Old Gurugram, featuring 27 stations. Approved by the Indian Government’s Union Cabinet in June 2023, the project is estimated to cost ₹5,452 crore.

This latest bid marks the fourth round of tendering for the DDC contract, now designated as Package GGNCCDD-15(R3). Previous rounds saw varied participation and outcomes, highlighting the challenges in securing a suitable bidder for this critical design phase. Notably, the third round, which SYSTRA bid for, was canceled in April 2024, necessitating a re-invitation of bids by HMRTC.

SYSTRA’s bid focuses on providing detailed design consultancy for Civil, Architectural, and Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) works across the 28.5 km elevated section, encompassing 27 stations. The corridor spans from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City in Gurugram, with an additional spur extending from Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway.

Following the opening of SYSTRA’s technical bid, HMRTC will initiate a comprehensive evaluation process, expected to take several months. This evaluation will determine if SYSTRA meets the technical requirements stipulated by HMRTC. Subsequently, if qualified, SYSTRA’s financial bid will be assessed to ensure it aligns with the project’s budgetary constraints.

The HUDA Millennium City Centre – Cyber City line holds strategic importance, not only for enhancing intra-city connectivity within Gurugram but also for facilitating interchanges with key transit networks. Anticipated interchanges include connections with Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and Gurgaon’s Rapid Metro. Furthermore, the line is set to intersect with the Delhi – Dharuhera (RRTS) line at Cyber City and Hero Honda Chowk, enhancing regional connectivity and commuter convenience.

Despite delays in previous tender rounds, HMRTC remains optimistic about advancing the project. Concurrently, efforts are underway to appoint a General Consultant for the line to oversee design, supervision, safety, quality control, and contract management. Technical bids for this role are scheduled to open on July 1, underscoring HMRTC’s commitment to progressing with necessary project phases in a timely manner.

SYSTRA’s bid for the Detailed Design Consultant role represents a pivotal step towards realizing the Gurugram Metro HUDA – Cyber City line. With its expertise and track record, SYSTRA is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the metro infrastructure landscape of Gurugram. As evaluations proceed and decisions are made, stakeholders eagerly anticipate further progress towards the eventual commencement of construction activities.
