Tender floated for construction of Dongri Depot for Mumbai Metro Line 7 and 9

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has commenced the bidding process for the construction of the Dongri Depot, a crucial component of the Mumbai Metro Red Line expansion. This significant step forward was announced on February 6, 2024, inviting tenders from construction companies for the Civil Contract Package CA-207.

The proposed Dongri Depot & Workshop is slated to occupy 41.36 hectares of land in north-west Mumbai, connecting Dongri to Mira Bhayandar, Dahisar East, Gundavali, and CSIA Terminal 2. This depot is essential for stable and efficient maintenance of BEML trains operating on the entire Red Line, encompassing Line-9, Line-7, and Line-7A.

Key Features of Dongri Depot

  • Operations Control Centre (OCC)
  • 690m long test track with platforms
  • Stabling shed (SBL) with 20 lines (with room for 18 future lines)
  • Workshop shed (WSL) area with 3 lines
  • Inspection shed (IBL) area with 4 lines
  • Receiving substation (RSS) and two auxiliary substations (ASS)

Package Details

  • Package: CA-207
  • Estimated Cost: Rs 626.69 crore
  • Period of Work: 52 months
  • Bid Submission End Date: March 12, 2024, at 5.00 PM
  • Technical Bid Opening Date: March 13, 2024, at 5:30 PM

The project entails the development of depot land and construction of essential infrastructure, including a Stabling Yard, Operation Control Centre, Depot Control Centre, Administrative Building, Maintenance and Inspection buildings, Auxiliary substations, Roads, Underground utility ducts, Drainage System, and Rainwater Harvesting.

The 52-month duration of the contract is notable due to the site's current topography, featuring a hill that requires leveling. The land development component includes cutting, filling, preparatory works, tree transplantation, and soil stabilization.

Access to the Dongri Depot will necessitate a 4.9 km extension of Line-9 on Uttan Road from Subhash Chandra Bose Ground Station. The alignment of this extension, prepared by Line-9's Detailed Design Consultant in June 2023, showcases the strategic expansion plan.

In September 2023, MMRDA formally submitted an application for Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for the Line-9 extension. This extension includes two new elevated stations at Murdha and Rai Goan, with a pending tender notice for their construction.

Upon completion, Dongri Depot will serve as the central hub for Red Line with BEML trainsets. This relocation includes trains currently stabled and maintained at Line-2's operational Charkop Depot and the under-construction Mandale Depot.

The initiation of the bidding process for Dongri Depot marks a significant stride in Mumbai Metro network expansion. This project, with its innovative features and strategic location, is poised to elevate the efficiency and connectivity of the Red Line, contributing to the city's sustainable urban development.
