Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is taking significant steps toward improving the connectivity between old and new Gurgaon by developing two new metro corridors. On Thursday, HMRTC announced the invitation of tenders for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for the two metro lines that will enhance regional mobility and alleviate congestion.
The first planned metro line, spanning 17 kilometers, will run from Bhondsi to Gurgaon Railway Station. This corridor aims to reduce traffic congestion on key roads such as Sohna Road and NH-8, covering important areas like Vatika Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Chowk, Sector 4-7 Chowk, and Railway Road. Notably, this metro line will intersect with the planned Millennium City Centre-Cyber City line at both Subhash Chowk and Sector 5 stations, providing seamless connectivity. Additionally, the line will facilitate an interchange with the upcoming rapid rail corridor at Rajiv Chowk, enhancing travel options for commuters.
The second metro line, covering 13.6 kilometers, will connect Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5, linking corporate hubs with residential areas in Old Gurgaon. This line will pass through key locations, including Hong Kong Market in Sector 57, Ardee City, Millennium City Centre, Signature Tower, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, and Sheetla Mata Road. As the Millennium City Centre station will intersect both the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro and the planned Cyber City corridor, the new line will offer an excellent transit option for thousands of commuters traveling between old and new Gurgaon.
An official from HMRTC stated, “We have invited tenders for the preparation of DPRs for these two metro lines. The 17-kilometer line will provide a seamless connection from SPR (Southern Peripheral Road) to key transit hubs, with interchanges with the metro, RRTS corridor, and the railway station. Similarly, the 13-kilometer line will cater to the densely populated areas of the city.”
The development of these new metro corridors will play a crucial role in easing traffic congestion, improving public transport options, and fostering better connectivity between the fast-growing urban areas of Gurgaon. The metro lines are expected to provide much-needed relief for the city’s commuters, offering a more efficient, eco-friendly alternative to road transport.
