Kochi, India (Metro Rail Today): Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a ballastless track work contract under Kochi Metro Phase 2, quoting ₹130.2 crore for the project.
The tender, floated by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), covers the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of standard gauge ballastless track for the elevated section between Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro Station and Infopark Metro Station.
The project will be executed as part of the 11.2-kilometre Phase 2 corridor, which will extend Kochi Metro connectivity from JLN Stadium to the Infopark campus in Kakkanad, one of the region’s key IT hubs.
According to tender details, Texmaco’s bid of ₹130.2 crore was the lowest among four participating bidders.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited had initially estimated the contract value at ₹127.91 crore. Texmaco’s bid is slightly higher than the estimate, but the difference remains marginal, indicating that the contract is likely to be awarded to the company following final evaluation.
The contract involves the implementation of ballastless track infrastructure along the elevated corridor between chainage +60.000 metres and 10,640.000 metres.
The scope includes the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of standard gauge ballastless track and associated connections required for the metro system.
Once awarded, the contractor will have 16 months from the date of the Letter of Award (LoA) to complete the work.
The Kochi Metro Phase 2 extension, also known as the Pink Line, will connect Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium station with Infopark in Kakkanad through 11 stations. The corridor is designed to enhance connectivity between Kochi city and the rapidly expanding IT and commercial hub in Kakkanad.
Civil works for the project have already crossed nearly 50 percent completion, with several viaduct and station structures progressing across the alignment.
Once operational, the extension is expected to significantly improve commuting for thousands of employees working in the Infopark and SmartCity technology parks, while reducing road congestion in the eastern part of Kochi.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said the progress of track infrastructure contracts marks an important step toward operational readiness for metro corridors.
“Ballastless track systems are critical components of modern metro infrastructure, ensuring smoother operations, reduced maintenance, and higher operational reliability. Contracts such as this play a key role in transitioning metro projects from the civil construction phase to system installation and eventual commissioning,” she said.
She added that the steady progress of Kochi Metro Phase 2 reflects the increasing focus on expanding metro connectivity to emerging economic and technology hubs in Indian cities.
