Tiruchirappalli, India (Metro Rail Today): The Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation has identified three metro corridors in its comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) prepared for the city. The CMP was prepared with the help of a Bengaluru-based consultant to strengthen public transport infrastructure.
Based on their study, the consultant has suggested three potential routes as high-demand corridors for the proposed metro rail network in Trichy city.
According to the report submitetd by the consultant, a total length of 68 km may serve as a master plan for the Trichy Metro proposed by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). Based on the passengers per hour per direction data (PPHPD) collected and with projections made till 2042, three routes were named as high-demanding metro rail lines.
Corridor 1 running for a length of 18.7 km will connect Samayapuram in the northern suburbs with Vayalur in the western suburbs after passing through Srirangam and Thillai Nagar, Corridor two is planned for 26 km, the longest of all three. It will connect Thuvakudi with Panjapur integrated bus terminus via the Central bus stand while Corridor three will run for 23.3 km connecting Trichy railway junction with Panjapur via the international airport and the semi-ring road.
At three locations, there is a need to integrate three metro corridor alignments. Central Bus Stand, Junction and Panchapur IBT were identified as potential intersections. The type of metro network either Metro Lite or Metro Neo and the number of bogies in the metro train for Trichy will be designed based on the city's passenger capacity.
