Agra, India (Metro Rail Today): Construction work on 6-km priority stretch of Agra Metro is going on full swing. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that by the beginning of the year 2024, Metro service will start in the Taj City, Agra.
CM Yogi Adityanath while inaugurating the underground work for the tunnel of Agra Metro Rail Project by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) said that the work of this 6 kilometer long metro rail corridor will be completed 6 months before its scheduled time and by the beginning of the year 2024, people in Agra will start getting metro train services.
The priority corridor of Agra Metro is 6 kilometers long and will connect the Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid. There will be three elevated metro stations namely Taj East Gate, Basai and Fatehabad Road in this corridor. Apart from this, the three underground stations that will be in this corridor are Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Jama Masjid.
CM Yogi Adityanath said, "Agra Metro will not only help in public transport, but will also be helpful for tourists. This will create employment opportunities for the youth. Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Kanpur are currently in Uttar Pradesh where metro rail services are operational."
UPMRC has recently launched underground constuction activities for three new metro stations and about 3-km strech of Agra Metro Rail Project. The tunnel boring machine (TBM Yamuna) has been deployed by the contractor Afcons Infrastructure Ltd to build the tunnel for metro project.
The 6-km priority section is part of 14.25 km long Corridor 1 of Agra Metro Rail Project, Phase 1. This corridor will connect Sikandra to Taj East Gate with 14 stations at Sikandra, Guru Ka Taal, ISBT, Shastri Nagar (future), RBS College, Raja Ki Mandi, Agra University, Medical College, Jama Masjid, Agra Fort, Taj Mahal (Purani Mandi), Fatehabad Road, Basai and Taj East Gate.
