UPMRC Chief Sushil Kumar receives Urban Infra Metro Man of the Year Award

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): At the 4th Urban Infra Business Summit and Awards 2024, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) achieved notable recognition, securing two prestigious awards for its outstanding contributions to sustainable urban transport. The ceremony, held on October 16, 2024, in New Delhi, celebrated the achievements of individuals and organizations in the urban infrastructure sector.

The Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards is organized annually by the Urban Infra Group in collaboration with leading industries, corporates, and media houses to honor and recognize industry leaders—both individuals and corporates - for their extraordinary contributions to developing major infrastructure projects in India through innovative ideas, products, and services.

Mr. Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of UPMRC, was honored with the Urban Infra Metro Man of the Year 2024 award for his exemplary leadership and commitment to rapid metro development in Uttar Pradesh.

UPMRC also received the award for Sustainable Mobility Promoter of the Year, acknowledging its dedication to promoting environmentally friendly transport initiatives, including participation in the Energy Exchange Program, which has led to electricity savings of ₹4 crore over the past 1.5 years.

The corporation has successfully constructed a green corridor spanning 1.1 lakh square meters, showcasing its commitment to sustainable practices. Under Mr. Kumar’s leadership, UPMRC completed the Kanpur metro project, launching passenger services on a 9 km corridor between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel in just 2 years and 1.5 months. Additionally, the 6 km underground tunnel was built in a remarkable 11 months, setting a record for the fastest-constructed underground metro section in both India and globally. Currently, construction is ongoing for 32.04 km of corridors in Kanpur and 29.4 km in Agra, with rapid progress expected to deliver enhanced metro services to the public soon.

Mr. Sushil Kumar expressed pride in the recognition, stating that the awards reflect the dedication and hard work of UPMRC's employees. He emphasized the importance of accelerating construction on the remaining sections in both Kanpur and Agra, which will not only improve public transport but also reduce traffic congestion and lower the carbon footprint in these cities.

With a clear vision for environmental conservation, UPMRC plans to implement various initiatives to promote sustainability in urban transport, further solidifying its role as a leader in the sector.
