Afcons Infrastructure wins ₹630 crore civil contract for Jaipur Metro Phase 1 Extension

Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for urban transportation in Jaipur, Afcons Infrastructure has emerged as the lowest bidder for the civil construction contract (Package UG-03) of Jaipur Metro's new phase, Phase 1C. This expansion aims to extend the Pink Line by 3.41 km, linking Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar.

The ambitious Phase 1C project encompasses the construction of 2.65 km of twin tunnels beneath the old city, complemented by a new station at Ramganj Chaupar. Additionally, a 0.76 km elevated route will feature another new station at Transport Nagar, enhancing connectivity and accessibility.

The project's scope, outlined by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC), involves designing and constructing twin tunnels using Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), an underground station at Ramganj Chaupar, a Cut and Cover Tunnel Box, and an underground ramp from Badi Chaupar to Underground Ramp end at Jaipur Metro Phase-1C. The comprehensive scope includes architectural finishing, entry-exit structures, water supply, sanitary installations, and drainage works, all in the vibrant city of Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The bidding process commenced in June 2023 when JMRC invited bids for the underground section's construction. The technical bids were recently unveiled, revealing four competing firms. The financial bid values from these contenders are as follows:

  • Afcons Infrastructure Ltd: Rs 630.45 crore (L1)
  • Sam India Builtwell Pvt Ltd: Rs. 651.22 crore (L2)
  • ITD Cementation India Ltd: Rs. 735.18 crore (L3)
  • J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd: Rs. 750.45 crore (L4)

Remarkably, Afcons Infrastructure's bid significantly undercut JMRC's estimated cost of Rs. 717.23 crore for the project, indicating the potential for a swift contract award process in the coming months.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase 1C was meticulously crafted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in June 2020. As the project's General Consultant, DMRC proposed that the existing 10 4-car BEML train-sets would adequately serve the extension, eliminating the need for additional rolling stock.

As Afcons Infrastructure takes the lead in this competitive bid, Jaipur anticipates a future of improved urban connectivity and enhanced metro services.
