Bangalore Metro all set to commence trial tests of first driverless train on Yellow Line

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): In a groundbreaking move towards modernization, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is gearing up to test its first-ever driverless metro train. The assembly of this remarkable train, designated for the yellow line, has been completed in the presence of skilled Chinese engineers, marking a significant milestone in Bengaluru's transit evolution.

The BMRCL has officially announced that an extensive series of 37 tests will be conducted over the next four months. Assembling the coaches is the first step, with subsequent static and electrical circuit testing on the test track. The comprehensive testing phase includes system integration with signaling, telecommunications, power supply, and more.

"Being new rolling stock, multiple tests need to be conducted. There is a wide range of about 37 type tests lasting for four months, followed by System integration with Signaling system, Telecommunications system, Power supply system, etc.," stated BMRCL, highlighting the meticulous approach taken to ensure the safety and efficiency of the driverless train.

Anticipation is building as Bengaluru awaits the arrival of two more trains by May, followed by a monthly influx of two trains starting in June. These driverless marvels boast a remarkable frequency, running every 90 seconds, and each coach spans an impressive 21 meters in length.

The introduction of the driverless train is slated for the Yellow Line, expected to commence operations by the end of this year or early next year. In 2019, CRCC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd secured the contract to supply 216 coaches to BMRCL, including this prototype train. The assembly, conducted at Electronics City, saw a dedicated team of Chinese engineers overseeing the intricate process.

The prototype driverless train is set to undergo trial runs on the Yellow Line, connecting RV Road with Bommasandra via Silk Board. Following these trials, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) for evaluation and approval.

Bengaluru's foray into driverless metro technology signifies a leap into the future of efficient and advanced public transportation. The rigorous testing and integration processes underscore the commitment to safety and reliability, ensuring a seamless experience for commuters. As the city eagerly awaits the deployment of these cutting-edge trains, the driverless metro project stands as a testament to Bengaluru's dedication to embracing innovative solutions for its growing transportation needs.

At present, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) is operating driverless trains on the two lines (Line 7 & Line 8) of Delhi Metro Rail Network.
