Delhi Metro privatise operations on two more metro corridors - Yellow and Violet Lines

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): On August 28, 2024, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) announced a pivotal development in its ongoing efforts to decrease its operational costs and enhance operational efficiency across its network. The DMRC has issued a letter of acceptance (LoA) to JMD Consultants, entrusting them with a crucial contract for Train Operations Services on the Yellow Line and Violet Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Network. This significant move is set to revolutionize the operational management of these key routes and improve the overall commuting experience for passengers.

The contract involves comprehensive Train Operations Services for the Yellow Line and Violet Line. The Yellow Line operations will focus on Kashmere Gate Crew Control and Qutub Minar Crew Control, while the Violet Line operations will be centered at Badarpur Border Crew Control.

The awarded contract value is approximately ₹96,28,93,424.20 (₹96.29 crore). The operational period for this contract spans 2310 days, highlighting the long-term commitment to maintaining and enhancing metro services.

JMD Consultants will be responsible for:

  • Operating Train Services: This includes driving trains as per the established timetable and adhering to instructions from Traffic Controllers at the Operation Control Centre (OCC) for mainline operations and Depot Controllers for movements within the depot.
  • Managing Crew Control: Overseeing crew management at Kashmere Gate and Qutub Minar on the Yellow Line, and at Badarpur Border on the Violet Line.

The detailed scope of work involves managing train operations and ensuring efficient crew control, crucial for maintaining punctual and reliable services.

Yellow Line Operations

  • Location: Kashmere Gate & Qutub Minar Crew Control
  • Average Train Running Hours per Day: 845 hours (subject to operational requirements and changes by DMRC)

Violet Line Operations

  • Location: Badarpur Border Crew Control
  • Average Train Running Hours per Day: 640 hours

These operational hours are designed to accommodate the extensive requirements of Delhi Metro’s daily services, ensuring that the trains run smoothly and efficiently throughout the day.

The contract awarded to JMD Consultants is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency on the Yellow and Violet Lines.
