Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently conducted a comprehensive review of the DPR preparations with senior officials from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department. During this meeting, NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), provided a detailed overview of the project’s alignment, key features, and proposed station locations.
Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro will encompass six corridors spanning a total of 116.2 kilometers. As the DPRs enter their final stages, HAML is currently awaiting the traffic study report from the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) being developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. This report is critical for ensuring that traffic projections for the Metro corridors align with the CMP, a necessary step for securing approvals from the Government of India.
Following extensive discussions on various alternatives, Chief Minister Reddy approved the broad contours of the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 corridors, which include:
- Corridor IV: Nagole – RGIA (Airport Metro) – 36.6 km
- Corridor V: Raidurg – Kokapet Neopolis – 11.6 km
- Corridor VI: MGBS – Chandrayangutta (Old City Metro) – 7.5 km
- Corridor VII: Miyapur – Patancheru – 13.4 km
- Corridor VIII: LB Nagar – Hayat Nagar – 7.1 km
- Corridor IX: RGIA – Fourth City (Skill University) – 40 km
The entire Phase 2 project, a collaborative effort between the Telangana government and the Government of India, is poised to revolutionize public transportation in Hyderabad. However, concerns have arisen regarding Corridor VI, where approximately 1,100 properties will be impacted. Notifications for 400 properties have already been issued, with measures in place to protect sensitive structures along the route through innovative engineering solutions.
As the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project progresses, the finalization of DPRs marks a significant step towards enhancing urban mobility and improving the public transport infrastructure in the city. With the chief minister’s support and ongoing evaluations, stakeholders remain optimistic about the timely completion of this critical project, which promises to transform the commuting experience for millions of residents in Hyderabad.
