First Meerut Metro Trainset Arrives at Duhai Depot

Ghaziabad, India (Metro Rail Today):  In a significant development for the Meerut Metro project, the first trainset for the upcoming metro line has arrived at the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Depot in Duhai, Ghaziabad. This marks a crucial milestone in the journey towards establishing an advanced and modern transportation solution for the residents of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The Meerut Metro trainset, consisting of three cars, made its arrival at the NCRTC Depot on the night of February 27, 2024. The trainset was transported on large trailers and has been successfully unloaded for further assembly and testing. This follows the recent unveiling of the first look of the Meerut Metro trainset by Shri Vinay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of NCRTC. The trainset was handed over to NCRTC by Alstom at Savli, Gujarat, signifying a crucial step in the delivery process.

The Meerut Metro trainsets, manufactured as part of the Make in India initiative, boast a modern design with a focus on energy efficiency, lightweight construction, and advanced features such as a regenerative braking system. These trainsets are compatible with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC), and Automatic Train Operations (ATO), showcasing a commitment to state-of-the-art technology in the realm of urban transportation.

The Meerut Metro train is designed for a maximum operational speed of 120 kmph, ensuring swift and efficient commuting for passengers. With a keen emphasis on safety, speed, and modern design, the Meerut Metro aims to provide a reliable transportation solution for the growing population of Meerut.

The arrival of the Meerut Metro trainset at the NCRTC Depot paves the way for the initiation of trial runs shortly. The Meerut Metro corridor spans a length of 23 km and encompasses 13 stations. The rapid progress of construction is evident, with all stations taking shape, bringing the vision of a comprehensive and efficient metro network closer to reality.

A noteworthy aspect of the Meerut Metro project is the integration of both Namo Bharat trains and Meerut Metro on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) infrastructure. This integration is facilitated by the implementation of the European Train Control system (ETCS) Level 2 signaling with Hybrid Level 3 over Long Term Evolution (LTE). It marks a pioneering endeavor in global rail transportation, seamlessly connecting RRTS and metro services within Meerut, resulting in enhanced service frequency and operational efficiency.

The Meerut Metro trainsets have been designed with a modern aesthetic approach, prioritizing passenger comfort, safety, and security. Key features include air-conditioned coaches, comfortable seating arrangements, luggage racks, USB device charging facilities, dynamic route maps, infotainment systems, and illumination-based auto-control ambient lighting. The trains are equipped with state-of-the-art amenities to meet the evolving needs of modern-day commuters.

The arrival of the first Meerut Metro trainset at the NCRTC Depot signifies a remarkable achievement in the ongoing efforts to transform Meerut's urban transportation landscape. As the project progresses, Meerut Metro is poised to become a vital component of the region's infrastructure, contributing to enhanced connectivity, convenience, and overall urban development.
