Five firms bid for E&M Contract of Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Chennai's expanding metro network, five firms have submitted bids for the electrical and mechanical (E&M), fire protection, ventilation, and air-conditioning contract, C5-EM-03, as part of Chennai Metro Line-5's Phase 2 project. This 44.6 km elevated line, forming part of the larger 116.1 km Phase 2 project, will traverse from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur in a north-south orientation.

The scope of this contract encompasses system works at 10 elevated stations, 6 underground stations, underground tunnels between Kolathur and Nathamuni stations, and a viaduct between Madhavaram Milk Colony and Grain Marker (Koyambedu Market) stations. Tata Projects is handling the construction of the underground section under Package UG-06, while Larsen & Toubro is overseeing the elevated section under Package C5-EV-03.

The tender for this crucial contract was floated by Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) in August 2023, with an undisclosed estimate and a completion deadline of 1910 days (5.2 years).

The following firms have submitted bids for the C5-EM-03 contract:

  • Antelec Pvt. Ltd.
  • Blue Star Ltd.
  • ETA Engineering Ltd
  • Jakson Ltd.
  • Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Ltd.

CMRL's comprehensive scope for this contract includes the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and training of electrical, plumbing, fire protection, VAC works, and BMS system from Madhavaram Milk Colony Station to Grain Market Station for Corridor-5 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase-II.

The technical bid evaluation process has commenced, and it is expected to take a few months to complete. Following the evaluation, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to determine the lowest bidder and the likely contractor for this crucial phase of Line-5's expansion.

Notably, this marks Line-5's second E&M package, with C5-EM-04 having been awarded to Voltas in December 2023. As CMRL progresses with system contracts, attention is particularly focused on the upcoming bid opening for Line-3 and Line-5's 210 coach rolling stock (Package ARE-02), currently scheduled for March 22, 2024.
