Four bids received for civil package C1 of Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The National National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) has opened the technical bids for major civil contract package C1 in the first week of this month. This high-value tender was floated for the construction of BKC High Speed Rail Station in Mumbai in connection with 508.17 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project.

As per information shared, four major infrastructure firms have submitted their bids for the design and construction of Civil and Buildings Works on Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis for Double Line High Speed Railway for Mumbai Underground Station, Cut and Cover Tunnel and Shaft-1 from MAHSR Km. -0.255 to Km. 0.775 at BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex) in Maharashtra (Package No. MAHSR-C-1).

The names of bidders are as under:-

  • Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.
  • J. Kumar Infraprojects Ltd.
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • JV of MEIL – Hindustan Construction Company

Tender notice for the above Package was originally invited in November 2019 and cancelled in February 2022 due to uncertainty over its construction as the state government was not ready to provide required land for this project. After change of state government, tender was re-floated in July 2022 with 1638 days completion timeframe. Technical bids were opened on 4th November 2022 in New Delhi.

The Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Bullet Train station will have six platforms and the length of each platform is approximately 415m (sufficient to accommodate a 16-coach bullet train). The station will have connectivity with the metro and road transport.

This station is the only underground station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor and it is planned at a depth of about 24 metres below the ground level. The station will have a total of three floors.

According to plan, two entry and exit points will be built on this station, one to facilitate access to the nearby station of Metro Line 2B and the other towards the MTNL building at BKC. The amenities planned for passengers at the station include waiting areas, business class Lounge, nursery, restrooms, smoking rooms, and information kiosks, among others.

The BKC Bullet Train station has been planned in a way that ample space is available for passenger movement and amenities at the concourse and platform level. In fact, dedicated skylight provisions have been made for natural lighting.
