Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a bid to enhance public transportation infrastructure across Rajasthan, the newly elected BJP government is eyeing a significant overhaul. The focus lies on transforming the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation Limited (JMRCL) into the Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation Limited, thereby extending metro services to multiple cities within the state. According to officials from the urban development and housing (UDH) department, which oversees JMRCL, this strategic move is part of the government's ambitious 100-day plan.
"The vision is clear: the government intends to introduce metro services in various cities. Rather than establishing individual metro corporations for each city, the plan is to streamline operations under a unified state-level entity," explained a senior UDH official. The decision, while still pending final approval, aims to optimize resources and ensure efficient expansion of metro networks.
While specific cities or towns earmarked for metro development remain undisclosed, key urban centers such as Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, and possibly Bikaner are under consideration. Emphasizing continuity, the UDH official hinted at entrusting JMRCL with the pivotal role of spearheading the formation of the new corporation. Notably, the proposed Line 2 of the Jaipur Metro, linking Sitapura and Ambabari, remains a priority for the government. However, immediate attention is directed towards the ongoing extension projects for Line 1.
This strategic shift underscores the government's commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure and fostering sustainable urban development. By centralizing metro operations under a unified entity, the administration aims to streamline planning, execution, and maintenance processes, thereby ensuring seamless connectivity and enhanced mobility options for residents across Rajasthan.
The state government's initiative to convert Jaipur Metro into Rajasthan Metro signifies a proactive approach towards enhancing public transportation services statewide. As efforts intensify to expand metro networks beyond Jaipur, the proposed transformation holds the promise of fostering inclusive growth, easing urban congestion, and promoting sustainable development across Rajasthan's burgeoning cities.
