Haryana to set up Gurugram Metro Rail Limited for Millennium City - Cyber City Corridor

Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): The Haryana state government has taken a significant step in enhancing urban transit with the decision to establish a new entity, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited. This newly-formed company will oversee the metro rail connectivity project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City Gurugram. The announcement was made by Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal during the 54th meeting of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC).

Circular Mobility Corridor

The primary objective of Gurugram Metro Rail Limited is to create a circular mobility corridor, connecting Millennium City Centre to Subhash Chowk, Railway Station, Rezangla Chowk, and finally Cyber City. This initiative is set to enhance connectivity and streamline transportation within the region.

While the new company, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited, will handle all upcoming projects, HMRTC will continue to oversee the existing Rapid metro project. The upcoming metro connectivity project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City in Gurugram is gaining momentum, covering a vast expanse of 28.50 km with 27 stations. The estimated project cost is Rs 5452.72 crore, and pre-construction activities, including geo-technical investigations and design consultations, are already in progress.

Rising Ridership and Income

Sanjeev Kaushal highlighted the success of HMRTC, showcasing a steady increase in ridership and income. The cumulative ridership in Rapid Metro Gurugram for the current year reached an impressive 80,13,765 passengers, marking a substantial growth from the 59,12,457 recorded the previous year.

Kaushal emphasized the need for addressing last-mile connectivity issues at every station and urged the corporation to focus on ensuring end-to-end transit for passengers, enhancing the overall comfort of metro travel.

Expansion Plans

The government also provided updates on other mass rapid transit projects. The Mass Rapid Transit System project for Chandigarh Tricity (Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali) is progressing, with consulting agency RITES actively involved in preparing the Alignment-cum-AAR (Alternatives Analysis Report) and DPR (Detailed Project Report).

Additionally, the extension of metro connectivity from Ballabgarh to Palwal has been set in motion following an announcement by Chief Minister Mahonar Lal Khattar. With a tentative corridor length of 25 km and 10 proposed stations, a Techno Feasibility Study is underway, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing regional connectivity.

These developments underscore Haryana's dedication to advancing its transportation infrastructure and providing efficient transit solutions for its residents.
