Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded a major Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) contract worth ₹137.08 crore to Jakson Limited for Corridor 4 of its Phase-2 expansion, marking a significant step in strengthening the city’s underground metro infrastructure.
The contract, designated CMRL/CON/PHASE-II/CORR-4-C4-E&M-06, covers the supply, installation, testing, commissioning and training related to critical E&M systems for eight underground metro stations between Light House and Kodambakkam. These works are essential to ensure safe, reliable and efficient metro operations across the underground corridor.
Under the scope of the contract, Jakson Limited will execute comprehensive electrical systems, plumbing works and fire protection systems. In addition to station premises, the E&M installations will extend across bored tunnel sections, cut-and-cover boxes, U-shaped sections and ramp areas along the corridor. The covered stretch runs from Chainage 0+173 metres to 9+949 metres, ensuring seamless integration of systems across stations and connecting infrastructure.
Corridor 4 is among the most critical corridors under Chennai Metro Phase-2, as it passes through densely populated and commercially significant parts of the city. The Phase-2 programme is aimed at expanding the metro network to improve urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion and promote sustainable public transport solutions.
Following the tendering process, the contract was awarded to Jakson Limited, which has a strong track record in infrastructure and EPC projects. The contract value reflects the technical complexity and scale of E&M works involved in underground metro construction.
The formal agreement was signed by Shri Manoj Goyal, Director (Systems and Operations), CMRL, on behalf of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, and Shri Yogendra Prasad, Senior Manager – EPC Business, Jakson Limited, representing the contractor. The signing ceremony was attended by senior CMRL officials and advisors, underlining the importance of the project.
Officials noted that the contract represents a key milestone in equipping Corridor 4’s underground stations with modern, high-quality E&M systems that meet stringent safety and operational standards.
With the award of this contract, CMRL continues to maintain steady progress on Phase-2 implementation. Entrusting Jakson Limited with critical E&M works for eight underground stations brings Chennai Metro closer to delivering a safe, efficient and future-ready rapid transit network for the city’s growing population.
