Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): In a bid to ease heavy traffic congestion and improve commuter convenience, Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij has urged Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to approve the construction of a metro rail link connecting Ambala and Chandigarh. During a meeting at the party office in Ambala on Friday, Vij emphasized that the proposed metro rail would not only save valuable time for thousands of daily commuters but also significantly reduce delays caused by peak-hour traffic.
The proposed metro link would cater to the growing demand for efficient transportation between the two cities, offering a faster and more reliable alternative to road travel.
Meanwhile, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) is moving forward with its own metro expansion project. Last week, GMRL issued a tender for the construction of Phase-1 of a new metro line, set to launch in May. The project, estimated to cost Rs 1,286 crore, will feature a 15.2 km viaduct and 14 elevated stations, stretching from HUDA City Centre to Sector 9.
The expanded metro system will significantly improve connectivity within Gurugram, featuring a 26.65 km elevated corridor with 27 stations, including a 1.85 km spur linking Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway. This will integrate with the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line at HUDA City Centre, further strengthening the vital transit connection between Gurugram and Delhi.
With these metro projects, both Ambala-Chandigarh and Gurugram stand to benefit from enhanced transportation infrastructure, potentially transforming the region’s commuter landscape.
