Jaipur Metro Phase 2 to link Airport Terminals, Promise faster Travel and stronger City connectivity

Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): Jaipur is moving a step closer to seamless urban mobility as the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) advances plans for Phase 2 of the metro network, which will directly connect the city’s airport terminals with the upcoming Line 2. The much-anticipated extension is expected to significantly cut travel time to Jaipur International Airport, ease road congestion and provide a reliable public transport option for thousands of daily commuters and air travellers.

According to officials, Line 2 of Jaipur Metro will be aligned in a way that connects the metro system to passenger terminals at the airport. The decision follows a recent consultation between JMRC and airport authorities, where modalities of integration and passenger facilities were discussed. By the time construction of Line 2 is completed, the third terminal of Jaipur Airport is also expected to be operational, making metro connectivity even more crucial for the growing passenger load.

JMRC officials have indicated that three dedicated underground tunnels will be constructed between the airport terminals and the metro station. These tunnels will be equipped with walkalators and elevators to assist passengers travelling with luggage. In addition, airport authorities are likely to introduce shuttle services linking terminals to the metro station to further reduce travel time and enhance convenience.

Construction strategy designed to avoid delays

To ensure timely completion, the project will be executed almost simultaneously in seven construction packages. This approach will allow multiple agencies to work in parallel, avoiding bottlenecks and accelerating overall progress. Officials emphasised that parallel construction will minimise the risk of delays and help deliver the corridor within targeted timelines. The project is also expected to provide a major boost to employment and ancillary urban development along the proposed route.

Sharing her views on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, said, “Airport-linked metro corridors are among the most transformative pieces of urban infrastructure. Jaipur Metro’s Line 2 will not only give passengers faster and smoother access to the airport but will also decongest key arterial roads and enhance the city’s economic competitiveness. Integrating terminals with seamless tunnels and shuttle services reflects a forward-looking approach to smart mobility that other cities can emulate.”

Boost for tourism and regional economy

Jaipur, known globally as a major tourism hub and part of the Golden Triangle, already attracts millions of domestic and international visitors every year. Faster airport connectivity through the metro is expected to benefit tourists, business travellers and residents alike. Improved access to hotels, heritage locations and business districts will further support the city’s hospitality and service sectors.

The project also aligns with the Rajasthan government’s broader vision to enhance connectivity across the state. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma recently indicated that several new infrastructure projects would soon be announced to bolster urban and regional mobility. With Line 1 of Jaipur Metro already operational between Mansarovar and Chandpole, Phase 2 will mark the beginning of a larger integrated network connecting more residential and commercial areas.

A significant milestone for Jaipur’s urban transport future

By combining underground tunnels, shuttle services and direct terminal access, Jaipur Metro Phase 2 is being positioned as a passenger-centric project focused on comfort, speed and safety. Once operational, the line is expected to reduce the dependence on private vehicles and taxis for airport travel, lowering emissions and contributing to cleaner urban air.

With planning in advanced stages and coordination underway between JMRC and airport authorities, Jaipur is preparing for a new era of airport connectivity. As work on Line 2 moves forward, the Pink City is poised to join the league of Indian metros offering direct rail links to airports, reinforcing its status as a modern, well-connected capital city.
