Jindal Steel bags ₹155.87 crore HH Rails contract for Delhi Metro Phase 4 Corridors

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant advancement for Delhi Metro’s ongoing expansion endeavors, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has clinched a pivotal contract with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) to fabricate and deliver HH Rails for the ambitious Phase-IV project. The issuance of a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for this contract signals a crucial stride towards fortifying the urban mobility infrastructure of India’s capital city.

The tender, identified by reference number DT-02R, entails the manufacturing and supply of 16935 MT HH Rails UIC 60/60 E-1 (Class-A), 1080 Grade, IRS-T-12-2009, on CIF basis (Indian Port) for Delhi Metro Rail Project – Phase IV Corridors (i) Line-8 Extn (Janakpuri West to RK Ashram) (ii) Line-7 Extn (Majlis Park to Maujpur) (iii) Line-10 (Aerocity to Tughlakabad). The contract, with a completion period of 365 days, has been awarded at a value of ₹155,87,57,349.90/-.

Specifications for the HH Rails mandate that the steel used undergo either basic oxygen or electric arc furnace process and continuous casting. Secondary ladle refining for molten steel is mandatory, with the manufacturer required to adhere to the best accepted code of practice to ensure rail specifications are met.

Regarding rail length, standard options include 13 meters, 18 meters, 25 meters, or 26 meters. Additionally, short lengths up to 10% of the contracted quantity are permissible, provided they meet specified minimum lengths.

This contract underscores JSPL’s proficiency in steel manufacturing and its vital role in bolstering major infrastructure projects across India. The Phase-IV expansion of Delhi Metro, aimed at enhancing connectivity in the metropolitan area, stands to gain significantly from the top-notch HH Rails supplied under this agreement, marking yet another milestone in the nation’s urban transportation development.
