Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The construction of the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, forming part of Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, is advancing swiftly, with Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) achieving a significant milestone. Today, UPMRC announced the successful erection of all 166 Pier Caps along this approximately 5-kilometer-long stretch. The final Pier Cap was erected near the under-construction Baudh Nagar station during the night of Thursday and Friday. Additionally, out of the 20 Cross Arms slated for erection in the section, 12 have already been installed.
In elevated metro infrastructure, Pier Caps are placed atop the piers (pillars), serving as foundational supports for the girders (U-girder, I-girder, and Double T-girder). The Pier Caps utilized in the elevated section were pre-cast at the casting yard located in Naubasta. Following the casting process, these structures were transported to their designated positions within the section and erected with the aid of cranes.
Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of UPMRC, expressed satisfaction with this achievement, stating, "The civil construction work of the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of the Kanpur Metro project is progressing rapidly. Today, we completed the erection of all Pier Caps in this section." He further highlighted the imminent completion of the casting work for all pre-cast structures within the section. Kumar commended the dedicated efforts of UPMRC's engineering team, emphasizing their commitment to delivering timely metro services to the city's residents.
Under Corridor-1 (IIT - Naubasta), besides the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, construction is advancing swiftly on the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar and Chuniganj-Nayaganj underground sections. Additionally, work has commenced on the Rawatpur-Double Pulia underground section of Corridor-2.
The progress achieved underscores UPMRC's steadfast commitment to meeting project milestones and fulfilling its promise of efficient metro connectivity for Kanpur's populace.
