Meerut, India (Metro Rail Today): Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) marked a significant achievement on February 2, 2024 by launching the final precast box segment for Reach-1 of Package 7 in the Delhi – Meerut RRTS (Namo Bharat) Corridor. This milestone underscores the progress in the construction of the 82.15 km high-speed rail corridor, enhancing connectivity between Delhi and Meerut.
The specific segment, measuring 2.35 km, connects Shatabdi Nagar and Brahmapuri Ramp, featuring an elevated station at Brahmapuri. The successful completion of this major construction segment was celebrated between piers P1392 – P1393, utilizing a 10.5m wide segment.
The majority of Package 7, covering approximately 8 km, is situated north of Meerut city and establishes a crucial link between Begumpul Ramp and Modipuram Depot. L&T, employing 10 launching gantry (LG) cranes, has completed 145 out of 296 spans. The addition of two more LGs is planned to expedite the construction process.
National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) awarded the construction contract for Package 7 to L&T in November 2020, setting a 2.5-year deadline. The team utilized a casting yard at Shatabdi Nagar for the production of box segments, showcasing effective project management.
The sole station on Reach-1, located at Brahmapuri, is designed to be serviced by 3-coach Meerut Metro trains, adding a convenient transportation option for commuters.
This achievement on Package 7 Reach-1 complements Larsen & Toubro's previous success in launching Package 3 Lot-2's final segment in January. Consequently, the project's viaduct is effectively completed along the entire route, stretching approximately 51 km from Sahibabad Ramp to Brahmapuri Ramp.
As reported previously, trial runs, encompassing train and system testing, have been in progress since December 2023 on a 25 km route between Duhai and Meerut South stations, spanning Package 3’s Lot-1 and a portion of Lot-2. With Lok Sabha elections looming, the prospect of an accelerated opening of this section remains a topic of interest.
The completion of Package 7 Reach-1 is a testament to the collaborative efforts driving the Delhi – Meerut RRTS project forward, promising enhanced regional connectivity and efficient transportation.
