LKT Engineering bags Design Consultancy Contract for Pune Metro Nigdi Extension

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Pune's burgeoning metro network, LKT Engineering emerged victorious in securing the Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) contract for the Pune Metro Purple Line's Nigdi extension. Awarded by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) on December 29, 2023, this Rs. 1.11 crore contract propels the expansion of Pune Metro Phase 1A, demonstrating the commitment to advancing urban transportation infrastructure.

The Pune Metro Purple Line's Nigdi extension is a pivotal component of the Phase 1A project, receiving approval from the Central Government's Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in October 2023. With an estimated cost of Rs. 910.18 crore, the extension spans 4.519 km, connecting PCMC to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti). The proposed extension includes the construction of three elevated stations at strategic locations – Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi.

LKT Engineering, renowned for its expertise in infrastructure design, secured the DDC services contract via Maha-Metro's Package DDC-01. The scope of services encompasses the production and proposal of alternate designs for all civil, architectural, building services, electrical, and mechanical works associated with the three elevated stations. As the lowest bidder among competitors, LKT Engineering is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the visual and functional aspects of these crucial metro facilities.

The bidding process for the DDC services, initiated by Maha-Metro in September 2023, witnessed participation from three notable contenders – Nippon Koei – BDP Design Engineering JV, LKT Engineering, and Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats. The financial bids, unveiled on December 11, revealed LKT Engineering as the lowest bidder, securing the contract with a final value of Rs. 1,11,00,000.

The detailed breakdown of bid values submitted by each contender remains undisclosed. Readers possessing this information are encouraged to contribute through comments or the Contact page for comprehensive documentation.

With LKT Engineering assuming the role of DDC, the focus now shifts towards the subsequent phases of Pune Metro's Nigdi extension. Maha-Metro, having invited bids for the civil construction of the extension's viaduct in December 2023, sets the stage for future milestones. The technical bid opening date for this construction is slated for February 2, 2024, underscoring the project's momentum.

Anticipating a tender notice for the construction of the three stations along the route in the next 4-6 months, stakeholders and citizens alike await the unfolding transformation that the Pune Metro Nigdi extension promises for enhanced connectivity and urban mobility.

LKT Engineering's triumph in securing the Design Consultant Contract for the Nigdi extension adds a layer of significance to Pune Metro's expansion. As the city's metro network evolves, propelled by strategic partnerships and meticulous design, the Nigdi extension stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts shaping the future of urban transportation in Pune.
