Tender floated for construction of Viaduct, Twin Tunnels and Underground Stations for Indore Metro

Indore, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has invited bids for a major civil construction package for the Indore Metro project, covering an elevated viaduct, twin tunnels and two underground metro stations. The project, estimated at around ₹900 crore, is expected to create significant opportunities for metro infrastructure, tunnelling and EPC companies.

The tender covers the design and construction of an elevated viaduct, twin tunnels, ventilation and emergency egress shafts, cross passages and ramps, along with the construction of two underground stations at Bengali Chauraha and Palasia Chauraha.

The scope also includes architectural finishing works for the underground stations and associated structures, making the package a comprehensive civil and station-development contract.

The twin-tunnel component will require specialised underground construction capabilities, including tunnel excavation, structural works, ventilation arrangements and emergency access infrastructure. Cross passages between the twin tunnels are also included in the scope to support emergency evacuation and operational safety.

The inclusion of ventilation and emergency egress shafts highlights the technical requirements associated with underground metro operations. The ramps and transition structures will provide connectivity between underground and elevated sections of the corridor.

The two proposed underground stations at Bengali Chauraha and Palasia Chauraha will form an important part of Indore's evolving metro network. Architectural finishing works are also included within the tender package.

The project is expected to attract participation from civil construction contractors, metro rail infrastructure companies, tunnelling specialists, underground construction firms, station contractors, structural engineering companies and EPC players.

With underground metro construction involving specialised equipment, geotechnical engineering, structural works, waterproofing, ventilation and safety systems, the package could provide opportunities for companies with experience in complex urban infrastructure projects.

The tender is part of the continuing development of the Indore Metro network, which is being implemented to strengthen public transport connectivity across the city and support the shift towards mass rapid transit.

With MPMRCL inviting bids for the package, the next stage will involve the tendering and contractor selection process. The project is expected to add another significant underground construction component to Indore's expanding metro infrastructure.
