L&T bags major electrification and systems contract for Mumbai Metro Line 4 project

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): Larsen & Toubro (L&T)’s Transportation Infrastructure business vertical has secured a significant contract for the Mumbai Metro Line-4 project, further strengthening its position in India’s fast-expanding urban transit market.

The latest contract – Package CA-298, awarded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) – covers the electrification of the 24.72 km-long Line 4 corridor connecting Bhakti Park (Wadala) to Cadbury Junction, comprising 22 elevated stations.

Under this package, L&T will undertake:

  • design, manufacture and supply of traction and power supply systems

  • installation, integration, testing and commissioning across 24.72 route km

  • provision of SCADA system for Metro Line 4 & 4A, covering 32 stations, depots and receiving substations

  • complete electrical and mechanical (E&M) works

  • supply and installation of lifts and escalators for 22 elevated stations and two depots

  • five years of comprehensive maintenance

L&T has stated that the entire work will be executed by its in-house design and project execution team, reinforcing its end-to-end capabilities in metro system delivery.

Third consecutive win on Line 4 & 4A corridor

This is the third successive order that L&T has won in the Mumbai Metro Line 4–4A corridor.

Earlier contract wins include:

  • Package CA-234: rolling stock, CBTC signalling, telecom, platform screen doors, depot machinery & plant

  • Package CA-168: 19.5 km ballastless track works across 15 stations

With Package CA-298, L&T now commands a substantial role across track, rolling stock, signalling and electrification for the corridor.

Mumbai Metro Line 4 is designed to:

  • improve connectivity between Wadala, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane and Wadala–Kasarvadavali

  • reduce traffic congestion along the eastern express corridor

  • provide faster, cleaner and energy-efficient mobility

  • support transit-oriented urban development in the metropolitan region

With multiple metro projects progressing simultaneously in Mumbai, including Lines 2A, 2B, 3, 4, 4A, 5, 6 and 7, the city continues to witness one of the largest urban transit expansions in India.
