Maha Metro submits ₹12,937 Crore DPR for Pune Metro's Bhakti Shakti–Chakan Corridor

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has submitted the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Bhakti Shakti–Wakad–Nashik Phata–Chakan Metro Corridor under Pune Metro Phase 2 to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for approval. The ambitious 45.295-km corridor is estimated to cost ₹12,937.23 crore and is planned to significantly strengthen public transport connectivity across Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding industrial and residential areas.

The project, which has been under discussion for nearly two years, proposes 34 metro stations connecting major residential clusters, industrial areas, IT hubs and emerging urban centres. The revised DPR will first require approval from the PCMC General Body before being forwarded to the Maharashtra Government and subsequently the Central Government for necessary clearances.

45.3-Km Corridor to Connect Major Growth Centres

The proposed corridor will run from Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi through Wakad and Nashik Phata to Chakan, covering several important locations including Transport Nagar, Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi, Chimbali, Kuruli, Alandi Phata and Chakan.

The 34 proposed stations are Bhakti Shakti, Transport Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Mukai Chowk, Ravet, Punawale Gaon, Punawale, Tathwade Gaon, Tathawade, Bhumkar Chowk, Bhujbal Chowk, Wakad, Vishal Nagar Corner, Kokane Chowk, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Vallabh Nagar, Gavli Matha Chowk, Century Enka Corner, Landewadi, Bhosari Gaon, Bhosari Sector 1, Godown Chowk, PIEC (Moshi Exhibition Centre), Bharatmata Moshi, Chimbali Phata, Barge Vasti, Kuruli, Alandi Phata, Nanekarwadi and Chakan.

Three Major Metro Interchanges Planned

The corridor is expected to create strategic interchange opportunities with Pune Metro's existing and upcoming network. Bhakti Shakti and Sant Tukaram Nagar will connect with the Purple Line, while Wakad will provide interchange connectivity with the Pink Line (Line 3).

The Wakad interchange is particularly significant as it will connect the proposed corridor with the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line, providing improved access to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park and other major employment centres.

Similarly, the integration at Bhakti Shakti and Sant Tukaram Nagar is expected to improve connectivity with the PCMC industrial belt, residential areas, educational institutions and major transport corridors.

DPR to Undergo Government Approvals

The revised DPR is currently at the approval stage. Following PCMC General Body approval, the proposal will move to the Maharashtra Government and thereafter the Central Government for statutory and financial clearances.

Once approved and implemented, the Bhakti Shakti–Wakad–Nashik Phata–Chakan Metro Corridor could become a major backbone of Pune's expanding urban rail network, improving last-mile connectivity, reducing road congestion and supporting the continued industrial and economic growth of Pimpri-Chinchwad and the wider Pune metropolitan region.
